New Delhi: The opposition in the country came down on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he said that Congress will distribute the country's wealth among Muslims and infiltrators, Scroll reported.

The opposition called Modi's remark hate speech and will lodge a complaint.

In an election rally in Rajasthan on Sunday, Modi claimed that the Congress' manifesto discusses calculating the "amount of golf that mothers and sisters have, get information and distribute that property."

He claimed that when Congress was in power last time, the party said that Muslims have the first right over the country's assets. This means the party is going to distribute the nation's wealth to "those who have more children and those who are infiltrators", Modi claimed. He added that the "urban naxals" will not spare "even the mangalsutras of my mothers and sisters".

Modi was apparently referring to remarks made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but took them out of context. On December 9 2006, Singh said that the country's priorities must be to uplift Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities and women and children. "They must have the first claim on resources", Singh had said then, which Modi bent for the election gains of the BJP.

However, the Congress dared Modi to show where the redistribution of wealth to Muslims is mentioned in their manifesto.

"Lying for power, making baseless references to things and making false accusations on opponents is the speciality of the training of RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh] and BJP," Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on social media.

Rahul Gandhi called it hate speech and said that it was intended to divert the public's attention from matters of concern.

Trinamool Congress reacted that if the Election Commission is not taking any action against this "vicious and open" hate speech, let the commission be dissolved, and the Model Code of Conduct be forgotten.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi reacted that Modi's only guarantee has been abuse to Muslims and getting votes since 2014. It's known that under Modi's rule, the first right to India's wealth was given to him by his wealthy friends, Owaisi slammed.
