COVID-19: India reports significant spike with 33,750 new cases, 123 deaths in 24hrs

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Monday that India has reported 33,750 fresh Covid cases in 24 hours. This is a significant single-day spike in the ongoing resurgence. With 123 new deaths due to the infection, the nationwide death toll has risen to 4,81,893.
Furthermore, 1700 cases of Omicron has been identified thus far from across 23 states. However, 639 cases have been discharged from hospitals.
The active caseload of 1,45,582 constitutes 0.42 per cent of the country's total positive cases. 10,846 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally to 3,42,95,407. India's recovery rate currently stands at 98.2 per cent. The weekly positivity rate has climbed to 1.88 per cent and the daily positivity rate to 3.84 per cent.
On the positive side, 23,30,706 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. With this, India's Covid inoculation coverage has reached 145.68 crores. As per the Ministry, over 19.84 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and UTs to be administered.
