Chennai: On account of Cyclone 'Nivar' hitting the shores by today evening, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are under high alerts.

Many regions in the states has been witnessing heavy rainfall. The Tamil Nadu Govt has announced a public holiday and various regions of Andhra Pradesh are under red alert.

The Central weather forecasting department has informed its downfall between 'Karakkal' and 'Mahabalipuram'.

The speed of the wind would be 145 KM/hr. 24 planes from Chennai Airport were cancelled and more than 1200 rescue response forces are deployed.

The authorities have informed the arrangement of 129 rehabilitation centers. The various works are coordinated by the group headed by 36 IAS officers.

The position of the wind by today 8 am is 310 KM away from the shores of Puducherry.
