New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu's office released a statement on Thursday confirming the appointment of former bureaucrat CV Ananda Bose as Governor of West Bengal, NDTV reported.

Press Secretary to the President, Ajay Kumar Singh, said in the statement that the President of India was pleased to appoint bose as the regular Governor of the state. It added that the appointment would be effective after he took the oath to office.

After the former Governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar was appointed Vice President of the nation, Manipur Governor La Ganesan took the additional charge of the West Bengal Governor in July.

The Trinamool Congress had accused Dhankar of taking excessive powers when he was holding office.

New Governor Bose is a recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship and was the first Fellow of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. The academy trains civil service officers of the top ranks. Bose is an established writer and columnist and has published over 40 books in English, Malayalam and Hindi. His writings include novels, short stories, poems and essays.

He was the chairman of a working group that formulated the development agenda for the Narendra Modi government, and he proposed the "affordable housing for all" adopted by the government.
