Former militant raises Tricolour on the eve of Republic Day in J&K

Jammu: A former militant, who was released in 2019 after spending 13 years in jail, hoisted Tricolour outside his home in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, celebrating India’s 74 th Republic Day.
Sher Khan, who was active in the terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HUJI) between1998 and 2006, claimed he had been abducted by Pakistani militants as a 20-year-old, The Indian Express reported.
After disenchanted with the terror outfit, Sheer Khan and six others surrendered to the Indian security forces in Awantipora (Kashmir) in 2006.
Once a dreaded name in the region, Sher Khan regretted his days having spent as a militant which ruined both his and his family’s life.
Sher Khan, who has put up the Tricolour at his house for the first time, is living with his second wife Shaheena and two daughters Sumaiya (19) and Khaleefa Bano (17).
“After my release from jail three years ago, I used to visit Mughal Maidan to attend the Republic Day function,” he reportedly said.
His first wife Parveena, 42, lives separately with their son Musafir, 20. He married Shaheena when he was still a militant.
He reportedly confessed that he was misled on a wrong path and changed ways as soon as he realised it and surrendered before the security forces, joining the mainstream.
