Gang chases, harasses woman in Bengaluru city: husband shares the ordeal

Bengaluru: A man living in Bengaluru said on social media that some parts of city are unsafe after 10 p.m with gangs roaming on the streets to extort money.
Taking to social media platform X, Srijan R Shetty related the ordeal his wife, travelling in a car, faced after being chased by a group of men on one of the city streets, NDTV reported.
Shetty said he never felt unsafe in the city thanks to having the privilege of being Kannada-speaking male, which however was shattered last Thursday night.
‘I've never felt unsafe in Bangalore-I know my privilege of being a Kannada-speaking male-but last Thursday night I felt how unsafe certain parts of the city are post-10 p.m.’ Shetty wrote on X.
He claimed to have seen ‘horrific videos of fake accidents in Sarjapur’ involving hooligans who tried to blackmail people in the car.
On November 8, Shetty said, his wife was to drop off some colleagues in Sarjapur area when a group of men chased her car.
‘She was smart enough to stop only on the main road and inform the cops as soon as possible.’ Shetty wrote.
The gang ordered around his wife to get out of the car which she did not do.
Meanwhile, the car was hit by some tempo which was to force the woman and her colleagues out of the car.
‘None of the bystanders helped the three women and a guy in the car.’Shetty was quoted as saying.
Rather than waiting for help, the woman pulled over the car on the main road and alerted the police.
‘If it hadn't been for her wits in calling the cops and then calling us and 10 of her friends to immediately join her at her location, the incident could have taken a different turn.’ Shetty further said.
Srijan R Shetty called for beefing up security in the city, saying ‘we need security, and we need it now. Sarjapur has been a hotspot for these incidents.’
As the post went viral on X, many users responded and at least one person related facing similar incidents a couple of times.
Taking note of the incident, Police asked for specific area details and contact details of Shetty.
