IANS

In the early hours of Thursday, a toxic chemical leaked from a printing mill in the Sachin GIDC area of Surat, killing at least six people and hospitalizing another 20.

According to police, the gas was leaking from a tanker. The majority of those affected are daily wagers who were sleeping close to the site

The incident apparently occurred when the driver of a truck poured the chemical into a drain. It's believed that the chemical spread to sewers and other drains, but an official confirmation of the cause is still pending.

Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, has expressed grief over the incident. Harsh Sanghavi, the Attorney General who hails from Surat, has also expressed grief over the incident.
