New Delhi: The number of daily coronavirus infections in India breached the 7,000 mark for the first time since March 1 as India logged 7,240 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Daily coronavirus infections in India crossed 5,000 after 94 days (yesterday the country reported 5,233 cases), taking the total tally of active cases to 32,498, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of deaths climbed to 5,24,723 with eight fresh fatalities, government data updated at 8 am stated. India has reported 4.31 crore Covid cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

The recovery rate remains stable at 98.72% with over 3,500 people recovering in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra recorded 2,701 fresh coronavirus-positive cases in the last 24 hours - the highest in nearly four months- but did not report any fatality. Mumbai alone accounted for 1,765 cases.

Delhi recorded 564 new Covid cases - the highest since May 15 - and one more fatality on Wednesday, while the positivity rate rose to 2.84 %, according to data shared by the health department.

According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday (June 9), the country saw a total of 3,591 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate to around 98.71 percent, and total recoveries data reached 4,26,40,301.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have risen to 32,498, the health ministry data showed today. Yesterday, the registered active cases were 28,857.

An increase of 3,641 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, the ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 85,38,63,238 samples have been tested up to June 8 for COVID-19. Of these 3,40,615 samples were tested on Wednesday.
