Its China behind ongoing farmers protests: J. Markandey Katju

New Delhi: Former Supreme Court Justice Markandey Katju has alleged that China is behind the ongoing farmers' strike. In an article by him, he alleged that China's aim is to prevent the Modi-led BJP government from coming to power in India for a third time.

Kztju points out that the strike that took place in the country in 2020-21 ended when the government accepted the farmers' demand to withdraw the agricultural laws. Now, just before the general elections, the farmers of Punjab have again come up with a strike. They want a minimum support price for agricultural products. When it is known that Samyukta Kisan Morcha and other organizations are leading the strike, who is behind these organizations is a question that needs to be answered, Katju said.

Although there is no direct evidence for this claim that China pulls the strings behind farmers, he says that logical circumstantial evidence points to it.

He continued that there is competition between the US and China. The latter is emerging as a superpower. However, the Modi government has steered India towards the American side, and the US welcomed India as it needed countermeasures against China in Asia. Consequently, China resents India's alliance with the US, he said.

According to the former judge, it is almost certain that the BJP government will come back to power in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Rama temple dedication in Ayodhya and the developments in the Gyanvapi and Mathura Shahi mosques are laying the foundation for BJP's third era, he claimed.

But this is unbearable for China, he claims. China sees the BJP as a staunchly pro-American party, which he says is the reason why he surmises that China is behind the groups leading the farmers' agitation. He said that if he were asked what evidence there is for such an outlandish claim, he would say that there is circumstantial evidence based on logical inferences.

The pro-American BJP winning the general elections will be opposed tooth and nail by China, Katju claimed. According to him, mobilizing farmers- who constitute 60 per cent of India's population- is a Chinese strategy.
