Delhi Chief Minister said the ongoing demolition drive in the capital city has to end and called it the biggest destruction of India's independence. He slammed the ruling BJP party for the move.

In a TV speech, the CM said the Municipal Corporation is planning to demolish all unauthorised colonies of Delhi. "Over 50 lakh people live in these colonies. About 10 lakh people live in the slums of Delhi and they are planning all slums to be demolished".

He clarified that the AAP government is against encroachment but demolition is not the way things are done. "Delhi was not built with planning. Over 80% of the city's land has been encroached." The AAP founder further said the Municipal Corporation planning to bulldoze over 63 lakh people is not right.

Kejriwal raised questions regarding BJP's role in the matter and said the Municipal Corporation has been ruling the city for 15 years. BJP took the money and allowed illegal construction. "Do they have the moral or constitutional power to take action to run a bulldozer?" He noted that the BJP's term will be completed on May 18.

The Delhi CM asserted that these problems will be solved once the AAP government has wrested power from the BJP. He said his government will make raw colonies clean and give ownership rights to residents. He added that the Delhi government will develop them into "good colonies" and are building homes for slum dwellers.

Various parts of Delhi have been seeing anti-encroachment drives over the past few weeks. Home and business establishments are being run over by bulldozers under the watch of police officers and government officials.
