Owaisi gets 'Z' security over threat to life, he calls firing a 'well-planned conspiracy'

Lucknow: The Central government has provided Z category security cover for Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), who met an attack on life on Thursday enroute to Delhi after campaigning in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.

The vehicle in which the AIMIM chief was travelling received fire shots when the covey reached Meerut's Kithoudh area. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will provide the 'Z' category to Owaisi.

Meanwhile, two people fell into the police custody for firing at Owaisi convoy.

One of the arrested, Sachin, is said to have already had a case against him for an attempt to murder, according to police, claimed he holds a law degree and a member of a right wing organisation. The police said that they are investigating his claims. Another accused named Shubham, the police said, is found to be free from criminal records.

Both accused have stated to police that it were the remarks the Owaisi brothers, Owaisi and his brother and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, made against the Hindus, the cause of their attack on AIMIM chief.

Police have recovered country made pistols from them, which they had recently purchased. Police are now looking for the people they bought the firearms from.

Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi, has urged the Election Commission to ensure an independent probe is carried out into the incident.

"I urge the EC to ensure an independent probe into the incident. It must be known who is behind this incident. It's also an appeal to the Modi government and the Yogi government," he said, talking to reporters.

"This was a well-planned conspiracy. They knew I was going to Delhi from this route. It was a perfect plan because all cars slow down at the toll gate," he added.
