Hyderabad: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that people's stomachs cannot be filled by showing the pictures of God, PTI reported.

In an apparent reference to the January 22 consecration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Kharge said, "People's stomachs will not be filled by showing God's picture."

Addressing Congress party booth-level workers here, Kharge cautioned people not to fall into the "trap" of PM Modi.

He further alleged that inflation in the country is going up every day and people have no jobs even as Modi comes out with excuses such as Pakistan and China and invokes God when in a crisis.

The Congress leader hit out at Modi, saying that the prime minister gave several guarantees earlier and never fulfilled them.

He assured that two out of the six guarantees given by the Congress party in the run-up to the recently held Telangana assembly polls have been implemented by the state government, and another two will be rolled out "soon" while the rest will be implemented in two to three months.

Last week, Kharge slammed the Modi-led Union government over the falling standards of education in India. Kharge said that India should ensure justice for its students in 2024, according to a PTI report. He alleged that BJP is destroying the future of Indian youth.

"More than 'Amrit Kaal', we need 'Shiksha Kaal' for India," he said in a post on X. "In 2024, India shall ensure NYAY for our students from the Modi Government, for its report card on 'Education' is marked with gross Failure," he said, citing the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER).
