Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government orders a probe into alleged irregularities at a sterilization camp at Narmadapur community health centre in Surguja district after the officials reported a surgeon operates on 101 women in seven hours.

The government-run- sterilization camp has already reported strange happenings in local newspapers which made the health department take action. The surgeon and local health officials were imposed with a show-cause notice. The health centre is located in the Mainpat development block of the district almost 300 km away from the capital Raipur, the official said.

Dr Alok Shukla, the Principal Secretary of the state's Health and Family Welfare department has assured to take further action based on the complaints on the sterilisation camp.

"A total of 101 surgeries were performed by a (government) surgeon in the camp. The women who underwent the procedure were reported to be in a normal condition. However, as per the government guidelines, a surgeon can perform a maximum of 30 surgeries in a day and hence, an enquiry has been ordered to ascertain why the guidelines had been violated," Dr Shukla said.

The surgeon claimed that he was persuaded to perform the surgery where multitudes of women consulted him for the surgery by pointing out that they couldn't travel regularly as they were from remote villages.

Regarding the operation on the camp, PS Sisodiya, a Surguja Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) imposed a show-cause notice to Dr Jibnus a surgical specialist who operated on the camp on August 29. The Chief Medical and Health Officer had formed a three-member committee to inquire about the matter.

Dr Sisodiya ensures to take stern action against the workers who are behind those undertakings immediately after the enquiry committees' report. The surgeries are found to be conducted from 12 pm to 7 pm on August 27.
