Woman student 'leaks' objectionable videos of hostel mates, protest erupt in Punjab

Chandigarh: One student collapsed and another one reportedly attempted suicide after a woman student allegedly leaked objectionable videos of her hostel mates at a private university in the state.
Students of Chandigarh University came out in large numbers late Saturday night protesting against the incident.
Police arrested a woman from Mohali in connection with the incident and an FIR has been registered, India Today reported sourcing DSP Rupinder Kaur.
Punjab School Education Minister HS Bains assured the protesting students that the guilty would not be spared.
The minister appealed to the students to be calm and media to be cautious as it is a very sensitive matter which relates to the dignity of "our sisters and daughters".
The trouble started Saturday night after MMS clips of hostel students reportedly surfaced on the internet.
Reports said that the woman student allegedly made videos of hostels mates having a bath and sent them to a man in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, who uploaded them on the internet.
Chandigarh University's student welfare officer denied any student having attempted suicide, adding that one woman student fainted and was taken to hospital.
Dr Arvinder Singh Kang, Director of Student Welfare, however, claimed that no objectionable video was leaked. Further investigation is underway.
