Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF Opposition Monday created uproar in the Assembly flaying the Oommen Chandy government for its decision to 'withdraw' the case registered against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia for his speech in Kozhikode on July 8, 2003.
V.S Sunilkumar MLA, who raised the issue, alleged the government was giving chance for religious men to go on communal rampage.
In reply to it, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said it was not the government’s decision to withdraw the case against the VHP leader.
“The court gave the verdict as there was a delay in filing chargesheet in the case. The then LDF government was not even ready to file a chargesheet against him,” chandy said.
