She Taxis to be inaugurated in Kozhikode on Jan 23

Kozhikode: Soon, women in the city can rely on She Taxis for their journeys as the service will be inaugurated on January 23.

She Taxi is rolled out in the city in its third stage by the Gender Park and Women Development Corporation as part of its plan to expand it across the state.

The services were first launched in Thiruvananthapuram with five taxis on November 19, 2013. At present, 25 She Taxis are operational in Thiruvananthapuram and 6 in Kochi.

Any woman resident of Kozhikode or those who reach the city can dial up 859000543 and book a taxi once the She Taxis are rolled out in the city. Women travelling with families can also book the taxis.

Women passengers will receive a unique identification code and the vehicle number on their mobile phones on booking the She Taxi. The taxis will have multiple security systems for the safety of the drivers as well as the passengers.

The 24 X 7 taxi service is expected to benefit large number of women and families reaching Kozhikode railway station and bus stands, especially during late hours.

In the beginning, the services will be limited to Kozhikode city. However, there are chances that the services be available in the rural areas too in future.
