BJP, CPI-M hand in glove to weaken Congress: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP and the CPI-M in Kerala are hand in glove with a view to weaken the Congress, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Tuesday.

Chandy said in a statement that this was why the Bharatiya Janata Party was not pressing for a CBI probe into the brutal murder of former CPI-M leader T.P. Chandrasekheran four years ago.

He said the BJP was soft on the Communist Party of India-Marxist as its principle enemy was the Congress. The BJP knows that if a CBI probe takes place, then the top leaders of the CPI-M would be in trouble.

"The BJP is interested in weakening the Congress. For that, these two parties are in a (covert) tie up for the (May 16) assembly polls," Chandy said.

Chandrasekheran, 51, who launched the Revolutionary Marxist Party, was hacked 51 times by assailants on May 4, 2012 when he was returning home on his motorcycle in his hometown near Kozhikode.

Eleven people have been found guilty of the crime and it includes local CPI-M leaders.

Chandy said CPI-M leader and former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan seemed to have changed his mind on the need for a CBI probe into the murder.

"The CPI-M is yet to come out with even an apology," he said.
