Perunna:   Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair has rubbished the statement by CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan that the majority of NSS are with the left front.

He said that there NSS following consists of people affiliatged to different parties and also some who do not subscribe to any party.   Kodiyeri had said that his party was ready to co-operate with NSS,   the majority of NSS were with the left front, and only the leadership was harbouring a grude against the party.

Sukumaran Nair in his patently non-conciliatory response,  reminded that CPM should better recall the fate of those who had declared that the entire Nair community was with the Left Democratic Front.

In effect Nair sounded turning down the hand of friendship extended by CPM after the face-off in the Sabarimala women's entry issue in which NSS had taken a firm stand against the Supreme Court verdict granting women entry,  and the CPM-led government had tried to enforce the verdict,  in addition to initiating campaigns advocating equal rights for women everywhere.

The NSS leader reiterated the organization's disapproval of the government, which he said was not on a personal level but in the name of faith alone.  If CPM pits itself against NSS in this matter,  it will side with the devotees and resist the opponent.   It would be wrong for CPM to belittle the strength of NSS, which was not an opportunistic body to make gains by pleasing those in power.
