Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister KK Shailaj asked people not to panic and buy up medicine as the state was not facing any shortage of drugs.

Quoting the state drugs control department she said that drugs for two months were in stock.

The drug control department of the state was closely monitoring 30 drugs of 25 companies for conditions including diabetes, heart disease, kidney ailments and stroke.

Efforts have been taken to bring in medicines in accordance with shortage of medicines.

Major drug distributors are located in Ernakulum and Thrissur; transportation passes had been issued to major companies to distribute medicines through the state.

Some companies are ferrying drugs via courier services and the issues related to it had been solved, she said.

In the event of shortage of any medicine, district inspectors could be alerted by phone and medicines would be made available in the nearby shops.

Medicines are made available in the government hospital as well, she said.
