Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police has registered a non-bailable offence against dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi among others for manhandling a man who posted vulgar and offensive videos about women in his YouTube channel.

The Thampanoor police registered an FIR against Bhagyalakshmi, activists Diya Sana and Sreelakshmi Arackal on a complaint filed by Vijay P. Nair, of Vellayani, who runs the channel.

The activists are charged with offences under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 294b (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place,) 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 392 (Punishment for robbery) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The women attacked Vijay P. Nair on Saturday at his lodge near Statue Gandari Amman Kovil Road in Thiruvananthapuram. The gang threw ink at the YouTuber and made him apologise on video for his act.

The activists grabbed his laptop and mobile phone from the lodge room to present before the police.

Meanwhile, the police has also started a probe over the doctorate of Vijay P. Nair after doubts were raised about its genuineness. Vijay claims that he earned the research degree in psychology from Global Human Peace University in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Kerala Mahila Sangam organised a march to the secretariat and the police station protesting against registering a case Bhagyalakshmi and others.

The march was led by Rakhi Ravikumar, CPI leader and deputy mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, and state secretary P. Vasanth.
