New Delhi: Attorney General KK Venugopal on Monday told the Supreme Court children who have been left out of NRC list despite their parents making it, in Assam, would not be sent to detention centers, till the courts decide a petition.

This is in response to the plea filed by the NGO, Citizens for Justice and Peace, seeking directions to the state NRC coordinator to ensure no child is left out of NRC.

The petition filed by the NGO says that after the publication of final NRC list, specific categories of marginalized people were excluded.

The petition also said that many children were excluded from the final list of NRC, all though their parents and relatives were in it.

The list doesn’t include orphaned children residing in state orphanages or homes.
