Anarchy is reigning in the nation: Sri Lankan Opp leader

New Delhi: As Sri Lanka is floating about rudderless, leadership vacuum is making the citizens all the more desperate in the chaos.

Amid this chaos at least a few names are being bandied about as potential leaders and of them Sri Lanka's opposition leader Sajith Premadasa's is doing more rounds as the country's next premier, according to India Today.

However the change of hands requires the current dispensation to resign which is again a problem because president Gotabaya has not resigned yet, nor does the prime minister.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is claiming to be the acting president on the basis of a statement made by the Speaker, Sajith Premadasa told India Today TV.

Premadas said that as per Constitution, when both the prime minister and the president resign, house speaker becomes the acting president, helping the country to go ahead to decide its destiny.

Even as Ranil Wickremesinghe claims to be the acting president, Premadas said he had not seen the letter of the president appointing him as the acting president.

Premadas called the ensuing situation a virtual anarchy, adding that anarchy is reigning.

In order to overcome the impasse the nation is facing, he said the Constitutionality should prevail.

He alleged that a group of leaders are implementing arbitrary methodology for their own political survival.

When asked how he would get the numbers in the parliament, Pramadas said that modalities need to be discussed with partners.

He added that he will have to work with some of the people who were part of the team that led Sri Lanka to the economic disaster.
