New Delhi: Unconfirmed reports say that Chinese President XI Jinping has been put under house arrest after he was removed as chief of China's People's Liberation Army, or the PLA.
Social media is abuzz with speculations suggesting a possible coup in the nation where a veil of secrecy covers over its internal matters.
The last international appearance that Xi Jinping made was at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, or SCO, summit in Samarkand.
Another version of the speculation suggests that the Chinese leader could be in quarantine that returnees from abroad having to undergo as per the country's strict 'Zero Covid Policy'
However, it does not seem the case with Chinese nationals taking to Twitter saying that PLA has taken over the control of the army from Xi Jinping; and some even speculated that Li Qiaoming has taken over power from Xi Jinping.
Unverified reports say that fewer commercial flights were flying over the capital Beijing on Saturday, and that all trains and buses were cancelled out of Beijing.
Nearly confirming the speculation, the Beijing Capital Airport's website shows flight cancellations with many were either scheduled or had already landed.
The flight radar maps shared by some people showed no flights over a large part of China.
A tweet by one Jennifer Zeng detailed PLA military vehicles moving to Beijing on September 22. The procession of vehicles stretching to 80 km started from Huanlai country near Beijing to Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province.
The rumours could hold ground—unverifiable though, because some internal issues involving top leadership are boiling over in the nation.
Only this week, two former ministers were sentenced to death, four officials were given life term just as the Communist Party is carrying out a anti-corruption campaign in the nation, according to India Today.
It is said that the six officials facing death or jail are the opponents of Jinping.
From another angle, anti-Jinping lobby could be behind spreading the news of his house arrest.
